Tournament this Weekend in Libertyville

And so we enter another weekend, which means another tournament for the Magic.

This time we head out to Libertyville to play some teams we've never played before. It should make for an exciting weekend.

Hopefully, the boys can put it all together and bring home a medal. We'll just have to wait and see.

Turkey Tournament in Waukegan

The team traveled to Waukegan again this past weekend for a two day Turkey Tournament.

On Saturday, they won both their scheduled games with authority. The kids defense was very impressive as they shutdown both their opponents.

On Sunday, the team returned to Waukegan to play their final two games. The first game was a blow out. Our team was up 20-0 before the other team even scored some points. Our players were very aggressive in their style of play. The second game of the day was the championship game. We were facing an older, and much taller, team that had beat all their opponents by an average of 25 points. Our boys were in for a challenge. It was a hard fought game every second, but in the end, we lost by 12 points. The other team was just bigger, and more talented. However, our coaches were extremely pleased with how our kids were not intimidated by the other team and play aggressively all game. The scoreboard may not have shown a victory, but the boys finished this game as better players - and that's a victory in our minds.

Thanksgiving Weekend Tournament

The team has only one practice this week before playing in a Thanksgiving Tournament this Saturday. Hopefully, the long time off, and a big Thanksgiving dinner, does not slow the boys down.

This week's practice will be held in Woodstock so the the team will be carpooling the boys up to the sports complex at 4pm Tuesday. Practice will consist of working on our defense and running some new offensive plays.

First Tournament has Ended

Our first tournament of the season took place this past Sunday, in Waukegan. The team played three games and went 2-1.

The team started the day strong by winning 35-15 in their first game with solid defense and timely baskets. The second game proved to be a bit tougher competition, but the boys went on to win 35-21. For their third and final game of the day, the boys faced their toughest opponent of the day. The game started out slow for our offense, and the defense gave up a few early baskets. In the end, we were unable to catch up and lost 35-25. During this last game, the boys showed fatigue, as their legs were getting wary and their minds were forgetful on which plays to run.

Regardless of not winning it all, the day was a great day for basketball. However, the weather outside was terrible. Rain was coming down hard and the power in the sports complex actually went out twice during our final game.

Now that this tournament is over, it's back to the court this week for more practices, and some more running!!!

The Season has Begun for the Illinois Magic!

The Illinois Magic Season is Here!
After several months off for doing other things, the Illinois Magic team, from Cary, is finally getting back together for another season.

This past week, the boys started having practicing in the driveway since the weather was still nice. Once the weather gets colder, they will work on their skills indoors at the local school.

As we enter the month of November, the boys will be preparing for their first tournament in the middle of November. By the looks of the practices so far, we should be in for a very exciting season throughout the winter months.

Good Luck, Magic!
